Ambassador Rufus Akeju, Resident Electoral Officer(REC), Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) in Ibadan has said that, about 20,000 workforce would be deplored for the 2015 General Elections in Oyo State.

Akeju stated this at a One Day Sensitization Programme For Youth Groups in the state held at Federal Secretariat, Ibadan.

Addressing the youths who came for the sensitization programme,Ambassador Akeju said, Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has completed the recruitment and training of over twenty thousand Serving Corps Members, Discharged Corps Members and penultimate students of Tertiary Institutions, According to him, the involvement of young Nigerians in the conduct of  election processes is an accentuation of the importance INEC attached to youth.

Akeju said that mere fact that Section 65(4) and 177(b) of 1999 Constitution allows Nigerians of 35 years to contest for the posts of Senator and Governor/Deputy Governor ,means that there is impediments in the way of the youth.

He also said that the elections which was shifted from original commencement date of Feb.14,2015, would now hold as planned on March 28 and April 11 for Presidential/Parliamentary and Governorship/State House of Assembly respectively.

He,however, warned politicians, who are planning to use fake Permanent Voter Card(PVC) to desist from doing so in order to avoid the wrought of the law from being visited on them.

To checkmate rigging during the elections, INEC has introduced a number of innovations such as customized Ballot Papers, Results Sheets and electronic Card Readers.

Akeju said that apart from this, every Polling Unit shall not have more than 750 Ballot Papers, while voters are to wait for their votes to count after casting it.

He said that a total of 1,563,800 PVC have been distributed by INEC in the state,while remainnig 800 plus awaiting to be collected by the owners.

The youths who were drawn from various parts of the state also took turns to address their colleagues who were invited to the sensitization programme.

It would be recalled that INEC has conducted similar sensitisation programmes for Disabled Persons and Womenfolks.
