FG Advised To Probe Activities of NNPCL under Kyari

The National Transparency Network, a coalition of Civil Society Organizations and concerned citizens, has called for a full investigation into the financial activities of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) under it Group CEO Mele Kyari.
At a press conference in Abuja, the group demanded the immediate establishment of a Special Commission of Inquiry to probe the $1.5 billion spent on the rehabilitation of the Port Harcourt refinery, a project that has failed to produce refined products despite claims of mechanical completion.
Led by its National Coordinator Dr. Fabian Opialu, the group decried what they called reckless and opaque spending, questioning why the original plan to rehabilitate two refineries was abandoned without explanation.
They also raised red flags about NNPCL’s dealings with Matrix Oil, which allegedly invested $400 million in the refinery project with no clear benefit to Nigeria. The Group expressed outrage that despite huge spending, the Port Harcourt refinery remains non-functional and fails to meet basic industrial standards.
