Oyo Police confirms killing of 9 persons by herdsmen
Oyo state commissioner of police, Abiodun Odude has declared that nine persons have been killed in the State by Fulani herdsmen within the space of two weeks.
Speaking in Ibadan at a stakeholders meeting organised by the Oyo state government which has in attendance farmers and herdsmen across the state. Odude disclosed the police in the state would no longer tolerate the killing of innocent citizens.
Odude added that the command has intensified efforts towards prosecuting those that had been arrested in connection with the killings in the court of law, adding that the command has commenced the investigation of other cases of killings in the state.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Abiola Ajimobi ordered the registration of all herdsmen and their cattles across the state as well as the establishment of a special task force.
He also charged all the Committees set up to find lasting solutions to the crisis as well as ensure a regular meeting with strict compliance with all the recommendations of the security committee set up in this regard.
However, representatives of various groups that spoke at the stakeholders meeting called for peace and harmonious relationship between farmers and herdsmen in the state for rapid socio-economic development.
