Gunmen suspected to be secessionists in the early hours of Tuesday attacked Oba Police Divisional Headquarters in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State, killing one police corporal and leaving buildings razed.

The police corporal was killed in the incident, while others sustained various degrees of injury as the hoodlums also attacked the Oba Civic Centre.

 The reason for the attacks is currently unknown, but it coincides with a declaration by secessionist leader Simon Ekpa, who called for a month-long hostility against government establishments in the South-East, starting from August 28, 2024.

The Police Public Relations Officer SP Tochukwu Ikenga who confirmed the incident in a statement said, a joint security force comprising the Army, Navy, Civil Defence, and other agencies is currently conducting a joint operation in Oba and its environs.
