Ebola Virus Outbreak Stabilized In Guinea-WHO

According to a statement from the World Health Organization today, the spread of the Ebola virus is said to be better controlled and stabilized Guinea, where the outbreak originated. However the spread of the virus is continuing in Sierra Leone and Liberia.

"The situation in Guinea, although still of grave concern, appears to have stabilized: between 75 and 100 new confirmed cases have been reported in each of the past five weeks," the WHO said in a statement.

It will be recalled that Sierra Leone had instructed its 6 million residents to stay home for three days to enable volunteers and health workers conduct a house to house investigation in order to spot patients of the Ebola virus who may be in hiding. The three day shutdown has ended and though figures are yet to be known, the government has described this move as a success.

WHO has described this epidemic of Ebola virus as the worst it has ever been. Ebola outbreak has affected five West African countries and is believed to have sickened more than 5,800 people and killed more than 2,800 across West Africa.
