Danagogo 'll Not Be Minister of Football - Opukiri
The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Goodluck Ebele Jonathan yesterday sacked Sports Minister Bolaji Abdullahi and appointed Dr Tamuno Danagogo as his replacement.
But who is Danagogo? What pedigree does he have in sports? Is he a green-horn? Is he one who would continue with the string of successes that have come the way of Nigeria since Abdullahi mounted the saddle?
These and many more were the questions that our readers and fans bombarded us with after the announcement of the new Sports Minister. We got ready answers from former Sports Commissioner of Bayelsa State, Prince Opukiri Jones Ere who vouched that the new Sports Minister would change the face of sports and create a better enabling environment for more results to come the way of Nigeria.
‘’He is a PHD holder, a former Chairman of a Local Government in Rivers State and former Commissioner of Culture and Tourism in Rivers.
He is a Sports person and did undoubtedly well at the Local Government where he assisted Rivers state to win the Sports Festival because of many athletes who came from his domain. He is a hard-working young man and very humble and thorough.
That means, he is not one who will abandon any good thing by his predecessor. He is meticulous and very transparent. That means that all funds appropriated will get to all the sports federations”, Opukiri himself who sparkled during his tenure as Sports Commissioner said.
Asked if he would as usual become Minister of sports, Opukiri retorted; no, no, no. He will be fair to all sports. Honestly, I tell you that a Daniel has come to judgment’’, Opukiri said of the former Chairman Akuku Toru LGA and Commissioner of LGA and Community Affairs and also Commissioner of Urban and Physical Planning who resigned voluntarily in 2013.
