The regulation follows the allegations, suggesting the fraudulent activities in the sector under the supervision of Babatunde Fashola.

Adopting a motion moved by Hon. Joseph Edionwele at Thursday plenary, the House  called on the ministry of Power,Works and Housing to evolve appropriate  mechanism to ensure the registration of all Estate Developing firms in the sector.

Leading debate on the motion, Hon. Joseph Edionwele ‎ who represents Esan West, Esan Central and Igueben Federal Constituency of Edo State noted that shelter is a top priority in the hierarchy of man's need, reaffirmed by section 16 sub (2) (d) of the 1999 constitution.‎‎

 

The lawmaker added that in a bid to actualise the above injunction, the Federal Government set up Public private partnership arrangement.

He added that the arrangement  entails government providing land for estate developers who are willing to use their resources to develop real estates for sale to members of the public at affordable rates.

Hon  Edionwele told the House that despite the attractive and motivational incentives by successive governments, there is still huge housing deficit for the low and medium income earners who are desirous of owning their houses.

‎

According to him,the public partnership arrangement has become a variable tool in the hands of people who masquerade as estate developers to dupe unsuspecting Nigerians  seeking affordable houses.‎

Other lawmakers in their contributions, told tales of woe,  how innocent  Nigerians have been defrauded by  perceived estate developers.

The House therefore mandated it's committee on Housing to conduct an investigative hearing on the alleged fraudulent practices and activities in the housing sector.
