PDP challenges outcome of Ekiti poll
The Peoples Democratic Party in Ekiti has asked the Ekiti state elections petitions tribunal to declare its candidate winner of the July 14 guberbatorial elections in the state.
This was disclosed to journalists on Friday after the submission of a petition challenging the outcome of the poll.
The last may not have been heard about the July 14, 2018, general election in Ekiti State as the gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Prof Kolapo Olusola on Friday submitted a petition before the States elections petitions tribunal sitting in Ado Ekiti.
Addressing journalists after the submission of the petition, Kolapo Olusola said his action is not an act of desperation to govern the state but an attempt to reclaim the mandate given to him by the people of Ekiti State.
He condemned the alleged desperation of the All progressive congress to take over every state in the country through any means.
Olusola said the July 14 gubernatorial election was marred by electoral malpractices including ballot paper stuffing, ballot box snatching and alleged intimidation of the electorates by the security agents posted to the state.
A senior advocate of Nigeria who is part of the team of lawyers defending the PDP petition, Bar Ola Olanipekun said they have asked the tribunal to declare the candidate of the PDP in the election Prof Kolapo Olusola winner of the poll because their findings showed that he scored the highest number of lawful votes in the poll.
The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic party in the State, Gboyega Oguntunwase described the election that produced the candidate of the APC kayode Fayemi as the worst ever in Africa.
The tribunal is expected to decide the petition within 180 days of filling the petition.
