The Nigeria Union of pensioners, NUP, Oyo state council has issued out seven days ultimatum to the state government in which to pay the retired civil servants, secondary school teachers and those in the parastatals and tertiary institutions who are being owed between 13 -24 months failure to which may lead the senior citizen  taking to the streets to protest non- payment of their monthly pensions.

Addressing the emergency meeting of the pension stakeholders in Oyo state, the vice chairman of the Nigeria Union of pensioners, Oyo state, Pa Gbade Akande called on the state governor Senator Abiola Ajimobi to as a matter of urgency pay the retired civil servants, secondary school teachers and those in the tertiary institutions, these people are being owed between 13-24 months.

He urged the governor to pay the pensioners so that, the senior citizens will not take to the street to protest the nonpayment of their monthly pensions.

Other retirees who spoke with Galaxy News on the matter warned the state governor not to test their patience any longer because after the expiration of the seven days ultimatum, they may be forced to disturb the activity of the government, which they think may embarrass the government.

According to them, about 560 members of the union have died since the beginning of unpaid and late payment of pension started over a year ago and that, their incessant visits to the office of the state accountant general of Oyo state had yielded no result.
