Ogun State Police Tackling Rising Crime Rate
No fewer than 1473 suspects have been arrested by the Ogun state police command whlie only 315 of the figures have been prosecuted so far between January and September 2014.
The Police Public Relations officer, DSP Muyiwa Adejobi, who disclosed this to Galaxy News in Abeokuta stated that following the rising wave of crimes in Ijebu axis, the command has created a new police post in Ijebu area and dispatched two teams of the Anti-Robbery sqaud to the area.
The Ogun state police command has declared that about 1473 suspects have been arrested in the state for various offences between January and September this year.
Our correspondent was informed that the suspects, some of whom have been charged to court were arrested in connection with offences ranging from armed robbery, kidnapping, cultism, rape to illegal possession of arms.
It was gathered that out of the number of suspects arrested, 315 of them have been prosecuted while 115 of the suspects have equally been convicted. The Police Public Relations officer of the Command, DSP Muyiwa Adejobi stated that, 116 stolen vehicles were recovered while the total value of property recovered stood at #119,435,690.00.
He disclosed that in view of the rising wave of crimes in Ijebu axis of the state, the command has established a new police post in Ibefun area of Ijebu-Ode adding that the post would serve as the base for the two teams of the Anti-Robbery Sqaud sent to the area.
Aedjobi added that the focus was on Ijebu area due to the fact that Sagamu, who had the same problem has been peaceful stressing that the rate of crimes in Sagamu has reduced drastically compare to what is being witnessed in Ijebu axis of the state.
He solicited the support of the people in the area and the entire Ogun state for the battle against crimes in the state.
It will be recalled that no fewer than four persons had been kidnapped by unknown gunmen.
