Delta: Oil Workers Protest Health Hazards, Unpaid Salaries
Sacked contract workers from two oil multinationals companies NPDC and EGTL gas project at Escravos community in Warri South West local government area of Delta state, have protested over what they describe as the Non payment of their salaries and the bad state of their health.
The protest which is coming up simultaneously in both the Escravos coastal community and Warri, saw both the community elders and women displaying placards of different inscriptions, while the contract staff took to the streets in Warri to express their displeasure.
Speaking on the protest, the spokesperson for the sacked workers stated that their health issues is a major concern since their
contract were terminated.
Also speaking at the Escravos community, the women leader stressed that their problems have been multiplied since SHELL left the community and introduced them to the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company(NPDC).
Meanwhile, elders and women from the community have promised to intensify the protest by storming the gas project site on Monday, while Naval officers on their part have taken to patrolling the oil installations to prevent any breakdown of law and order.
