Court Adjourns Ikere monarch's trial
An Ekiti state High Court has adjourned to Feb 16 in the case of murder against a traditional ruler in the state, Ganiyu Obasonyin.
In his argument, the defendants counsel, Morakinyo Ogele argued that the department of public prosecution acted in haste in charging the
case to court.
He said the crime was allegedly committed on Dec 25, which is a public holiday and Dec 26 is also a public holiday.
He wondered how the DPP arrived at his conclusion during the holidays and subsequently charged the accused to court on Dec 27.
Ogele said the inspector general of police Kpotun Idris has ordered fresh investigations into the case based on a petition written to that
effect.
Counsel to the state government declined comments on the issue when approached by journalists.
