Buhari’s absence not on health grounds- FG
The federal government says there is nothing unusual with vice president Yemi Osinbajo presiding over Federal executive council meetings.
The reaction is coming after concern raised by some Nigerians over President Muhammadu Buhari’s absence from Wednesday’s federal executive council meeting.
Speaking after the council meeting, Minister of information and culture, Lai Mohammad said the president was attending to other national issues and could not attend the council meeting.
The concerns were raised after council members recited the national anthem without the presence of the president.
Seeing the vice president Osinbajo presiding over the meeting in the absence of his boss, many concluded that the president may be indisposed and not able to attend the weekly gathering of his cabinet.
Minister of information Lai Mohammed said there is no cause for alarm as the president was attending to other issues while the vice president handled proceedings at the meeting.
The minister also used the opportunity to make clarifications on the achievements of the APC-led government nearly two years after it took office.
On their two year score card, the minister said every ministry will intimate the public with its activities as part of the two year anniversary.
Mohammed recalled that Yemi Osinbajo acted as president during the medical vacation of President Buhari between February and March this year, adding that there is nothing unusual with him representing the president at FEC.
