Breaking: Edo speaker, deputy impeached
Edo state House of Assembly speaker, Hon (Dr) Justin Okonoboh and his deputy Hon Elizabeth Ativie, have been impeached while Hon Kabiru Adjoto, emerges as the new speaker.
The impeachment of Edo speaker comes after several weeks of speculation, while the speaker repeatedly debunked the allegation.
Sixteen lawmakers ware said to have signed the impeachment plot but only 11 waere said to have sat this morning during plenary to impeach the speaker. The plot was carefully and peacefully carried out with no one sustaining injury as security operatives swiftly swung and locked down the Assembly to further avert crisis.
But the new speaker, Hon Kabiru Adjoto and his new deputy Hon Victor Edoror were one time impeached speakers, both left the premises shortly after the impeachment excercise.
Information has it that there is an ongoing meeting against the impeachment. although security operatives had since taken over the Assembly.
Meanwhile, the former and impeached speaker, his deputy and majority leader, who spoke to newsmen, described the impeachment as unfounded, stressing that eleven lawmakers cannot impeached them.
