2015 General Elections: Stakeholders Meet With Security Agencies
Representatives of some Political parties and other stakeholders held an interactive session with the police and other security agencies in the state to discuss issues on the expectations and successes of the 2015 General elections.
The meeting which was conveyed at the instance of the state police commissioner, Folusho Adebanjo, had the Newly posted Edo Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mike Igini, in attendance.
Edo State Police Commissioner, Folusho Adebanjo, welcoming all the stakeholders at the Command headquarters in Benin city, he remarked that the aim of the interactive session is to reappraise security strategies towards non- violent campaign as wells as strengthen existing collaboration with security agencies, INEC and other stakeholders among others.
The interactive session had representative from the ruling political parties in the state, APC, with other opposition parties such as the PDP, labor party, Accord, and the UNPP. Some others were not present at the occasion, although the police authority said invitations were sent to major parties participating ahead the 2015 elections. Beyond political parties who were in attendance representatives from Christians Association of Nigeria (CAN), the Muslims, Civil Society; National Youth Council and other fate base organization. Besides, the police, immigration, prisons, civil defense corp, and SSS were also present. The police commissioner however said 2015 is critical to the growth and sustenance of our democracy.
Meanwhile, the police after exhaustive deliberation at the occasion said party leaders and candidates must avoid unguarded and inflammatory statements capable of overheating the polity.
The newly posted Residential Electoral Commissioner, Mike Igini, said INEC will continue to engage all stakeholders to ensure that our democracy is sustained and have a peaceful 2015 General Elections.
He however urged all electorates and the various candidates to abide by the electoral statutes so that future generation will be happy that the right thing is done.
