Tricycle operators groan as buses take over
Instead of massive jubilation over the introduction of commercial buses on Delta roads, reverse seems to be the case as tricycle operators in the area have continued to express their disappointment towards the development.
While some residents in the state have started celebrating the introduction of the buses which they claimed would help solve the transportation challenges in the state, tricycle riders in the state are of the opinion that the introduction of the buses would attract to them their businesses, low patronage.
The tricycle operators have continued to groan due to the imminent withdrawal of tricycles from major roads in the state.
While speaking exclusively with Galaxy television at the Enerhen junction in Uvwie local government area of Delta state, a social critic in his reaction to the government’s policy, said the introduction of government owned buses and removing commercial tricycles from major roads will impoverish the people.
On their part, a commercial tricycle operator and the vice chairman National Union of Roads Transport Workers (NURTW), said it will lead to increase in criminality.
Meanwhile, as the December deadline for full compliance by commercial tricycle operators approaches, the affected road users are hoping for a better solution from the state government to ease the already tensed atmosphere.
