Reps Want Guaranteed Safety for Nigerian Workers

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, has called for renewed legislative action to guarantee the safety of Nigerian workers and strengthen occupational safety standards nationwide.
Speaking through Hon. Adelegbe Oluwatimehin at the 2025 World Day for Safety and Health at Work Conference in Abuja, Abbas stressed the need to protect workers from hazards and fatalities. He urged stricter enforcement of safety protocols, particularly in high-risk sectors like construction, healthcare, and mining.
Chairman of the Committee, Hon David Idris Zacharias, described the conference as a landmark effort, pledging continued legislative advocacy for improved safety policies. In a goodwill message, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi, reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to safer workplaces.
He called for an inclusive, collaborative approach rooted in tripartism involving government, employers, and workers to shape effective national safety policies. The event, themed “The Legislative Perspective: Safety First, Building a Safer Future for All Nigerians,” was organized by the House Committee on Safety Standards and Regulations to address workplace safety challenges.
