Police urge residents to surrender arms
The Delta state police commissioner Muhammad Mustafa has warned Deltans still in possession of registered and unregistered arms to report to the nearest police station or face the consequence.
This is coming as the expiration of the twenty-one-day ultimatum given for the surrendering of arms fail to yield the desired results.
In a statement made available to Galaxy news by the commissioner, said the command is now saddled with the responsibility of searching for arms in the twenty five local government.
He warned that defaulters will definitely face prosecution as they will not condone any act of criminality with the use of firearms in the state.
He called for information leading to the discovery of hidden arms and ammunition in the state, and promised to treat it with the secrecy it requires for security reasons.
It will be recalled that only two AK 47 rifles were submitted and twenty double barrel guns, while it is believed that there are still hundreds of arms and ammunition in the creeks and communities within the state.
