Ahead of the May 12 local government elections, leaders of the ruling All Progressive Congress in Oyo state have been urged to follow the provisions of the party's constitution in choosing candidates for the poll.

A chieftain of the party in the state, Hon. Wasiu Olatunbosun who made the appeal after he received an award from an Islamic society in Ibadan, cautioned the party leaders against the imposition of candidates on members of the party.

He enjoined members of the party who are yet to collect their permanent voter cards to do so, adding that they should be free to elect candidates of their choice no matter the level of intimidation.

Olatunbosun also appealed to the state independent electoral commission to create a level playing ground for all parties in order to ensure the credibility of the polls.
