The Presidency has refuted claims that President Muhammadu Buhari at any time during his electioneering campaigns in 2015 and 2019 promised to make a public declaration of his personal assets. 

Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina made the rebuttal in Abuja, during the launch of “One Step Ahead: Life of a Spy, Detective and Anti-Graft Czar”  a book authored by the former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Hajia Farida Waziri. 

Adesina was reacting to philosophical enquires by the archbishop of Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Rev Fr. Mathew Kukah, who had earlier, in a lecture, asked, why President Buhari failed to declare his assets publicly, after promising to do so during his campaigns.  

Kukah who was the guest speaker at the event was represented by Revered Father Patrick Alukumu. 

Adesina who was the book reviewer told the listening audience that the president never promised to declare his assets publicly but resolved to follow the constitution at every point.

He, however, challenged the Bishop to come up with his evidence. 

Promising to root out corruption in the country, President Muhammadu Buhari who was represented by the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola said corruption remains the key challenge of governance and development of any country adding that his administration will sustain the fight against it with the collaboration of all stakeholders.
