Doctors threaten strike over insecurity
Members of the Nigeria Medical Association in Osun state has threatened to down-tool if the government fails to unravel mysteries surrounding the death of the Chairman, Medical Advisory Council, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Prof. Jerome Elusiyan.
Prof. Jerome, a paediatrician was killed on Friday along Benin/Ekpoma road by unknown gunmen and his death has since remained a mystery to his colleagues and Nigerians.
Speaking at a press conference in Osogbo, chairman of the Association, Edward Komolafe condemned the incident and called on the Inspector General of Police to act decisively to apprehend perpetrators and subject them to the full wrath of the law in order to prevent a recurrence of such.
Komolafe called on the IGP to order the force to hasten their report which is delaying them from carrying out an autopsy on the deceased.
The association described security threat and inadequate welfare for members as one of the reasons while some medical practitioners relocate abroad to practice their professions.
They also called on the federal government to ensure that the education and upkeep of the deceased's children are not left in the lurch.
