FG Directs State, LG to Monitor Funds Allocated to Basic Education

The Federal Government has directed States and Local Governments in the country to build on the interventions provided by the Federal Government, as basic education implementation is their constitutional responsibility. Not only that, the Government at the Centre has announced its intention to supporting UBEC’s 2025 – 2027 Bold Commitments with the construction of 7,200 new UBE facilities, provision of 1,680,000 furniture, developing the capacity of teachers nationwide. 

 

Galaxy Television reports that the Minister of Education, Prof. Tunji Alausa, who made the disclosure during the flag off of the UBE School Based Management Committee, School Improvement Program and Commencement of Teachers Professional Development in Abuja, said it is the responsibility of the two levels of Government to maximize Federal Government’s 

Support by ensuring effective monitoring of Funds. Speaking in the same vein, the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Said Ahmad, stated that having recognized the importance of creating a conducive atmosphere for learning and improved outcomes in UBE delivery, the present administration has made outstanding educational investments that cannot be overlooked. 

 

Earlier in her remark, the Executive Secretary of Universal Basic Education Commission, Aisha Garba, admitted that basic education sector has made progress, but serious gaps persist noting that, while enrolment rose by 7 percentage points between 2016 and 2021, access to education has not expand to all. Also, the Dean of SUBEB Chairmen, Prof. Shehu Adaramaja and the Vice Chairman, House Committee on Basic Education, Hon. Muktar Sagaya, assured the Commission of the constant support of their respective bodies for the advancement of Basic Education in Nigeria. Highpoint of the event was the official flag off of the initiative by Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, and Supported by the Minister of State for Education in the Ministry and others.
