DG Law Reform Describes Exam Malpractice As Grave Offence

The Director-General of the Nigerian Law School, Professor Isa Chiroma, has described examination malpractice as a grave offence, insisting that those who fail to meet the required standards cannot be called to Bar.
Professor Chiroma made the disclosure in Abuja during an investigative hearing by the House Committee on Justice, chaired by Hon. Olumide Osoba, into petitions on alleged withholding of Bar results and backlog of students awaiting Call to Bar.
He dismissed the protests by some Law graduates, stating that the Law School operates a transparent process, and any withheld results are strictly linked to malpractice cases, not arbitrary actions.
The DG also presented visual evidence of malpractice incidents and confirmed the installation of CCTV cameras in Abuja, urging for additional funding to extend the technology to other campuses.
Professor Chiroma emphasized that only the Body of Benchers has the statutory authority to call candidates to Bar, and this is scheduled for July 8–10, 2025, and November 18–20, 2025 for the backlog.
In his remarks, Hon. Osoba commended the Law School for its reforms and pledged that the committee would carry out oversight visits to all Law School campuses nationwide in the coming weeks to assess infrastructure and security measures.
