Dos Santos Ruled Out Of Eagles Match
Villarreal forward Giovani Dos Santos will be missing out of Mexico's international friendly against the Super Eagles on Wednesday in Atlanta Georgia due to a calf injury. Coach Miguel Herrera has moved fast to replace him with Club America’s Raul Jimenez.
Dos Santos suffered the injury on Sunday in Villarreal’s 1-1 draw against Real Betis and this injury setback may have denied the Villarreal striker the only available chance to play under the new Mexico coach as other test games lined up for the El Tri are outside the FIFA windows.
Herrera spoke to the media in Atlanta Georgia that the encounter between both teams was important for him to observe his players playing their trade in Europe and to see if they adapt well to his plans.
"The game is always the most important and before Nigeria but we must see everyone as they are adapting to what we want and foremost play a very good game against Nigeria.
"He's (Dos Santos) a guy who gives everything on the pitch and is thinking about his team, as I ask everyone when they leave here , think about your club, play with everything and surrender than to be on the team ."
"No, it's a tear, we have to see how long it takes, we will see the doctor and communicate with Villarreal to know how severe the injury is, hopefully it won't be so severe."
The level of the injury is still unknown, as well as the recovery time. But it is still expected that the 2005 U-17 World Champion will recover in time to participate in the summer World Cup in Brazil.
Javier Hernandez , Andres Guardado and Hector Moreno are expected to be in the team in America . The rest of the players who play in the European leagues will be joining the squad today
