Stigmatization Affecting COVID-19 Free Testing - Oyo Govt
Oyo state government has identified the problem of stigmatization as the major issue confronting the free driveway testing arrangement for COVID-19 in the state.
The Commissioner for Health in the State, Dr Bashir Bello who made the disclosure at the sideline of an event in Ibadan said a majority of people that are positive refused to give their contacts.
Correspondent Kunle Ojo reports that the Commissioner hinged this motive of an attempt by those who have contacted the disease to prevent their relatives and other members of the public to know their status.
He added that despite the solid arrangements on ground the problem of stigmatization is not helping the situation stressing that this has led to the closure of 27 centres in the 33 local Government Development Areas in the state.
While speaking on the need for residents to know their status, the Commissioner for Health said the disease is very much around with an increasing number of cases of daily basis noting that what is on ground in Oyo state are permanent COVID-19 treatment and isolation centres.
He declared the determination of the present administration in the state to control and contain the upsurge of COVID-19 in any part of the state.
