Oyo NUT suspends strike
The leadership of the Oyo State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers has suspended the ongoing industrial action over irregularities in the payment of salary of its members, non-payment of promotion arrears among others.
The teachers embarked on the action a few days to the end of Abiola Ajimobi led administration following the breakdown of negotiations between the leadership of the union and government delegation.
The Union in a statement issued in Ibadan and signed by the chairman, Samuel Adedoyin announced the suspension of the strike stressing that the decision was based on the robust negotiations and discussion with the government delegation on most of the demands placed before the government by the teachers.
The statement added that the state government has captured the promotion of primary school teachers with the financial implications in the April salary while the promotion arrears of February and March salaries have been sent to the bank.
The Union, therefore, appealed to its members to resume at their respective duty posts on Thursday for normal academic activities in all public primary schools across the state.
