The Ondo state command of the Nigeria police has confirmed the arrest of an army officer, attached with 32 artillery brigade in Akure, Sunday Awolola who is suspected to have raped a student of Adekunle Ajasin University in Akungba Akoko a few weeks ago.

Confirming the arrest, the state police public relation officer, Femi Joseph said the army officer is currently in the custody of the police and investigations into what really transpired between him and the lady is ongoing.

Femi Joseph said the police shall thoroughly look into the matter before charging the suspect to court for proper prosecution.

He assured the general public that police shall be just and unbiased in the handling of the rape case which has turned to a national embarrassment.
