A Member of the House of Representatives representing Ukwa East/West in Abia State, Hon Chris Nkwonta, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The defection was announced by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas during a plenary session in Abuja,Wednesday

In response, Deputy Minority Leader Aliyu Madaki, citing a section of the constitution, called for Nkwonta’s seat to be declared vacant.

However, the Speaker informed Madaki that he was aware of a faction within the PDP, which may have influenced the defection.
