Labour meets with Bayelsa Govt
The meeting between the Bayelsa state government and labour leaders on the proposed education trust fund, ended in a deadlock with the union leaders promising to call a congress to deliberate on the issue.
The meeting which was held under closed door with the state governor Dr. Seriake Dickson presiding, led to heated argument between labour leaders and government officials before it was called off.
Briefing newsmen after the closed door meeting, the Bayelsa state governor who was represented by the commissioner for information spoke on the benefits of the trust fund.
On their part, the chairmen of the NLC, TUC and NULGE spoke on the present position which includes evaluating government policies.
It will be recalled that the Bayelsa state governor had proposed an education trust fund and tax for workers in the state, while labour leaders claim it will affect poor Bayelsans.
