Customs Seizes Illicit Drugs Worth 550million In Rivers
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS),Area 1,Port Harcourt have handed over illicit drugs seized at the Port Harcourt International Airport to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.
Addressing journalists and other stakeholders during the handover, the Comptroller of the Command, Mustapha Hashim said the breakthrough was made possible through collaborative efforts of the Nigeria Customs and other security agencies, using effective intelligence.
The consignment, believed to have originated from India, was imported into the country illegally through International Airlines from Frankfurt to the Port Harcourt.
Hashim warned drug traffickers to turn a new leaf, as his men are adequately equipped to track them down.
In his response while receiving the seized illicit drugs, the NDLEA Commander,Port Harcourt International Airport Command, Negedu Nathaniel corroborated the position of the Customs Comptroller on synergy among security agencies and assured of prosecuting whosoever is involved in the importation of the seized items.
Briefing newsmen after the handover of the illicit drugs ,the Comptroller said his Command has generated a total of revenue of over N142 billion between January and August,2024.
According to the comptroller, the Nigerian Customs Service will continue to work with security agencies and other relevant bodies to protect the nation from the dangers posed by illicit drugs and other contraband.
