CAN Opposes Proposed Herders Commissions

President Muhammadu Buhari has been called to act fast and maintain the corporate existence of Nigeria.

Chairman Benue State Christian Association of Nigeria, Rev Akpen Leva, made the call in Makurdi while expressing worries over the current insecurity situation in the country.

Rev Leva, said every community in Nigeria today is surrounded by bandits and disturbing trend of herdsmen saying if nothing is done now there may be no Nigeria, he called on Mr President to stop the policy of visa on arrival to enable security agencies to check the influx of militia herdsmen and other security challenges.

The state chairman of CAN further said the church and the people are increasingly worried that the unity of this country is being eroded by the inaction of Mr President and its anti people's policies, stating that the decision to act sharply on issues that affect a particular race and his inaction on issues that affect other Nigerians is worrisome.

While Rev Leva, says the church opposes the establishment of Herders Commission proposed by the attorney general of the federation, Abubakar Malami, which he said will embolden the herders to attack farmers and not solve Nigeria's problem, he urged the president to condemn the atrocities of the herdsmen and as well proscribe the Miyetti Allah Kautal Bore, Fulani Nationality Movement and Fulani Herders Association among other violent Fulani extremist group as was done to IPOB.

He called on the attorney general to enforce the open grazing law and ask the federal executive council not to give approval to such idea of Herders' commission.

The CAN boss, also expresses disappointment with Baluchi Governor, Bala Ahmed overstatement he made for supporting the herdsmen to bear arms such as AK- 47. Saying it was rather unfortunate from such a leader
