ASUU kinks Against Scrapping of TETFUND

The Academic Staff Union of Universities has called on the National Assembly to reconsider the decision to scrap the Tertiary Education Trust Fund in the interest of Educational Development in Nigeria. The National President of the Association, President Emmanuel Osodeke, made the appeal in Abuja during a season with the Senate Committee on Tertiary Education.

Prof. Osodeke who lauded the Contributions of TETFund in the area of funding of Research and infrastructural Development posited that scrapping TETFund for NELFUND is like killing the mother to keep the Child alive, calling on the National Assembly to jettison the move. He stressed that other African countries are currently copying what TETFund is doing across various institutions in Nigeria stated that, the government should find ways of strengthening the institution rather halting its activities at this point in time.

Prof. Osodeke posited that scrapping TETFund will have adverse effects on the Education Sector in Nigeria noting that, the National Assembly should rather find ways of encouraging the institutions to do more for Tertiary Institutions in the country.
