18 states have prevalence of Lassa Fever

No fewer than 18 states in Nigeria are currently having the prevalence of Lassa Fever just as the battle against the disease continues.

 


A virologist from the University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan, Dr. Bukola Fowotade who disclosed this to Galaxy News in Ibadan said there is the need for adequate surveillance on the part of the government and other stakeholders.

Dr. Fowotade said the two cases that are under surveillance in Oyo State have turned out to be negative adding that the state is presently free from Lassa Fever.

She charged the Oyo State government, through the ministry of health to embrak on massive enlightenment for the residents adding that the ministry of health have placed a demands for enough drug even as some of the neighbouring states are having records of outbreak of the disease.


The expert also enjoined members of the public to seek medical care at the designated hospitals and health centres across the state while she commended Galaxy Television for massive education of members of the public.
