NUAHP Chairman Urges FG To Address Crisis in Health Sector
The chairman of Nigeria Union of Allied Health professionals NUAHP college Hospital Ibadan chapter, Mr Olusegun Sotiloye has called on Federal Government to declare a state of emergency on health sector.
Mr Sotiloye made the call today in Ibadan while speaking on the update of their suspended strike some weeks ago which they claimed was to respect the new administration of President Mohammadu Buahari.
Mr Sotiloye while speaking with Galaxy News on why his union had to suspend its strike said the union decided to suspend the strike sometimes ago at the instance of the permanent secretary in the ministry of health Mr Linus Awite. The ministry through the permanent secretary promised to look into the demands of the union and that, he would call a meeting soon after the suspension of the strike by the union.
The permanent secretary stated further that, there is a new government in office right now, saying, the new government will need time to look into the union’s demands and also there is no substantive minister in the ministry then and even now as we speak. Mr Sotiloye however called on Nigerians to appeal to the Federal Government to settle his members because they will not want to be pushed to resort to strike again.
Concerning the residents Doctors ARD, that are still on strike in the hospital, Mr Sotiloye appealed to them to please suspend their strike and fight for their right while on duty. According to him, the health sector needs urgent attention, saying that, in fact left to him he would declare state of emergency in the Nigeria Health sector.
Sotiloye concluded by saying “As a country, we need a roundtable stakeholders forum where we can sit together and have a sincere discussion on how best to move our health sector forward so that, it can get back to its glory days.”
