USAID: Reps Decides To Investigate Allegations Of Boko Haram Sponsorship

The House of Representatives has resolved to investigate allegations by U.S. Congressman Scott Perry that the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) funded Boko Haram and other insurgent groups in Nigeria.

The House will also set up a special committee to examine the activities of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in Nigeria, including their identities, funding sources, and expenditures.

This follows growing concerns over the presence of some NGOs in Northern Nigeria, where security challenges persist.

Adopting a motion sponsored by Inuwa Garba, the House urged the federal government to engage with the U.S. through its Committee on Foreign Affairs to seek formal clarification on the matter.

Lawmakers emphasized the need for a thorough investigation, stressing the importance of regulating NGOs and development partners in the country.

They also called on the public and media to provide relevant information to aid security agencies in combating terrorism.
