NASS Moves to Remove Police From Federal Envelope Budgeting System

The National Assembly through its joint committee on police affairs is pushing to remove the Nigerian Police from the federal government's envelope budgeting system, which allocates fixed funding amounts.

This initiative aims to address concerns over inadequate police funding, as today's budget defense revealed a significant budget proposal shortfall.

Appearing before the joint committee on police affairs, the Inspector General of Police highlighted that the current budgetary constraints hinder effective operational planning and service delivery

Galaxy Television reports that Lawmakers argued that a more flexible budgeting approach would better support the police in enhancing national security and effective communication. The lawmakers emphasized the need to make the police more effective through enough budget provision for the safety of all Nigerians. The Committee therefore adjourned the sitting in honour of the late Hon. Adewumi Oriyomi Onanuga who died on Wednesday 15, 2024 after a brief illness.
